Volunteering at DuPage County Animal Control

DuPage County Animal Control welcomes volunteers who support our purposes and desire to make a contribution to the welfare of animals in our community.
The list below describes what some of our Volunteers do at the Shelter:


Please Note:  We will not be accepting applications for new volunteers until Fall 2012.  Please check back or call beginning October 1st for more information.  Thank you!

 

Animal Care Volunteers

  • Monday - Friday 8am - 11am
  • Animal care volunteers are responsible for caring for our adoption cats and kittens (cleaning, feeding, grooming, and providing exercise).
  • Requires a regular weekly or bi-weekly commitment of 2 hours. Cleaning and feeding the cats takes 1 - 2 hours.

Dog Walker/Cat Fancier

  • Mon. &Thurs 12:00pm - 7:00pm; Tues.,Wed., Fri. 12:00pm - 4:30pm
  • Volunteer to walk, groom, and exercise adoption dogs and groom & exercise adoption cats.
  • Requires a commitment of 2 hours per month.
  • Saturday Volunteers must be available during the week for training.

Pet Therapy

  • Thursdays 1:30pm - 3:00pm
  • Accompany shelter staff and adoptable pets to the DuPage Convalescent Center to visit with residents.
  • Requires a regular weekly or bi-weekly commitment.

Education Volunteer

  • Hours vary (morning &afternoon) Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter
  • Education Volunteers assist the Shelter's Public Education Officer with youth programs and Shelter events, such as:
    • After school programs (during school year)
    • Animal Education Day Camp (summer)
    • School presentations (during school year)
    • Bite Safety presentations (summer)
    • Shelter tours (during school year)
    • Be Kind to Animals Week (April &May)
    • Open House (September)
     
  • Experience in public speaking, youth education, and/or ability to communicate with youngsters age 7 - 17 is desired.

Clerical Helper

  • Assist office staff with customer service and data entry
  • Hours flexable during our regular business hours
  • Requires a regular weekly or bi-weekly commitment.

Foster Care

We welcome youth volunteers, under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
