Hours: On-Call Schedule, includes days, nights, weekends and holidays as needed

Salary: Pay on a Per Diem Basis: $25.00 Half Day Per Diem; $50.00 Full Day Per Diem

We are currently accepting applications and resumes for three (3) Paid-On-Call (POC) workers for the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. This position participates with the office on average one day per week.

Responsibilities include:
• Supporting Emergency Management Units on specific projects including public speaking, preparing public service flyers and announcements, assisting with various clerical projects, assisting with set up and take down of equipment and supplies used for presentations, classes, and meetings
• Maintaining inventories of equipment and supplies
• Assisting with various projects and initiatives, including research and data collection
• Responding to Emergencies and Emergency Operations Center functions during any hours of the day / week
• Other assignments as directed

Physical requirements and work environment:
• Ability to lift heavy objects (50 lbs. minimum) with or without reasonable accommodation
• The ability to participate as a POC in various adverse weather conditions
• The ability to participate as a POC in long hours under emergency conditions
• A criminal background check is required

Requirements for the position include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of FEMA Independent Study Courses within six (6) months of becoming a POC
• A valid Illinois Driver's License
 
The preferred candidate will have:
• Excellent speaking skills in addressing large groups
• Public Information Officer Training
• Knowledge of PC technology and capabilities, including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
• Knowledge of public safety radio technology and capabilities
• IS 100, IS 700, IS 800 certification
• Experienced in all facets of HSEEP
